A Polish court has convicted a man who held his daughter captive for six years, raped her repeatedly and fathered her two children.

Krzysztof Bartoszuk (47) was sentenced to 10 years in prison at a court in Bialystok.

Court spokesman Janusz Sulima said Bartoszuk was found guilty of multiple counts of rape and other charges.

His trial began last March after the conclusion of a case in Austria against Josef Fritzl, who was found guilty of imprisoning his daughter in a dungeon for 24 years and fathering her seven children.

The parallels led the Polish media to dub Bartoszuk the “Polish Fritzl”.

Bartoszuk admitted having sex with his daughter but insisted it was consensual. The verdict can be challenged.
