A suicide bomber killed one serviceman and wounded four others today in Russia's Dagestan province, where the Kremlin is struggling to contain an Islamist insurgency.
The attacker detonated explosives after approaching a police precinct house in Gubden, a village approximately 150 km south of the provincial capital Makhachkala.
The victims were said to be Interior Ministry troops assigned to guard the police building.
Gubden is known for alleged links to an insurgency aimed at building an Islamic state across Russia's mainly Muslim North Caucasus, which includes Dagestan and several other provinces.
