Police investigate cash robbery in Belfast

Police in north Belfast are investigating the robbery of a "substantial" quantity of money from a cash-in-transit van today.

Police in north Belfast are investigating the robbery of a "substantial" quantity of money from a cash-in-transit van today.

At about 10.10am, a man brandishing a handgun approached a male security guard at the cash-in-transit van outside a commercial premises on the Crumlin Road, the PSNI said.

The security guard dropped the cash box and the man took it before making his getaway in a blue Renault Laguna car.

The car was recovered a short time later. The robber was described as between 5' 4'' and 5' 6'' in height, of stocky build and clean-shaven.

He had a Belfast accent and was wearing a light hoodie top with light-coloured arms interspersed with dark segments.

He also wore stonewashed jeans and light coloured runners, the PSNI said.

Detectives at Antrim Road are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area today at the time of the robbery, or to anyone who is aware of the movements of a blue Renault Laguna car with the registration number HEZ 7993 between March 19th last and this morning's robbery.
