Police in California have found the man suspected of killing six members of his family hiding under a desk in his mother's backyard.

Mr Nikolay Soltys has been caught in a suburb of Sacramento after evading capture for 10 days.

Police say the 27-year-old Ukrainian immigrant was barefoot and dirty and looked like he could have been hiding in a field.

A $70,000 reward had been posted for Mr Soltys' arrest.

He is suspected of killing six family members, including his wife and three-year-old son.

Mr Soltys is believed to have stabbed to death his pregnant wife before driving 20 miles to kill his aunt, uncle and cousins.

He is later alleged to have slashed his son's throat and left the body in a cardboard box.
