Playing host to NATO, founded on the principles of militarism, nuclear deterrence and support for the arms trade, was in breach of Ireland's foreign policy as outlined in the White Paper, according to the human rights organisation Action from Ireland (AfrI).
The keystones of Irish neutrality was about using independent foreign policy to promote the peaceful resolution of conflict. AfrI was protesting at the holding of a NATO conference in Dublin, which was attended by representatives of Irish political parties.
