London - Former Chilean dictator Gen Augusto Pinochet was yesterday awaiting a re-ruling on whether he would face extradition proceedings to Spain on charges of human rights abuse.
The 83-year-old is due to hear today or tomorrow whether the Home Secretary, Mr Jack Straw, would reissue his Authority to Proceed after being asked to reconsider his initial approval by the House of Lords.
The Law Lords requested the review after slashing from 32 to two the charges facing Gen Pinochet, ruling that torture abroad was not against British law before it adopted an international torture convention in December 1988.
