Manila - At least six people died and tens of thousands fled their homes as Typhoon Babs ravaged the Philippines' central Luzon island yesterday with winds gusting to more than 200 km per hour (125 m.p.h.).

Babs is the second typhoon to hit the cyclone-prone Philippines in a week and the ninth this year. Typhoon Zeb killed at least 70 people last week.
