Police today uncovered what they called a petrol bomb factory in the Bogside area of Derry city.

The find was made while officers carried out a search after reports of youths acting suspiciously in the area.

Eleven crates of empty bottles, igniting wicks and a quantity of petrol were recovered, said a PSNI spokeswoman.

The haul had been stored in the rear garden of a vacant house in Durrow Park, she said. There were no arrests.
