A petition to beatify Frank Duff, founder of the Legion of Mary, has been signed by the Archbishop of Dublin, Dr Desmond Connell. The lay organisation, which started in Dublin in 1921, has several million members as well as millions more auxiliary members.
Mr Duff, who died in November 1980 aged 91, was one of the few lay people at the Second Vatican Council. His work will now be examined to establish "the truth and virtue" of his life.
