Pedestrians killed in Co Meath crash named

Two of the three men killed in car crash early on Sunday morning in Co Meath have been named.

Philip Quinn (38) from Robinstown, Co Meath, and Paul Lennon (42) from Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow, died when they were hit by a car while walking on the Dublin road about a mile outside of Navan at 4 am.

A third man, who has yet to be publicly named, died when he was apparently catapulted from the car which struck the two pedestrians.

The driver of the car was also injured and is being treated in hospital where he is in a critical condition, although his injuries are not thought life-threatening.

Garda Supt Gerry Smith said the driver would be interviewed when medical staff allow.

The driver, believed to be from eastern Europe, and another passenger were taken to Our Lady's Hospital in Navan following the crash. The passenger was later discharged.
