Gardaí in Limerick are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Roxboro Road at about 2pm yesterday.

A 61-year-old male pedestrian was killed when he was struck by a car.

The man was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The dead man, who had not been named last night, was the 31st pedestrian to be killed on the Republic’s roads this year.

Gardaí have renewed their appeal to all drivers to be especially vigilant for vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, who currently account for about 15 per cent of all road deaths.

Roxboro Road, which was closed by gardaí, has since re-opened.
