A pedestrian was killed in Co Westmeath last night when he was hit by a car.

A pedestrian was killed in Co Westmeath last night when he was hit by a car.

Gardaí are investigating the death, which happened at 8pm at Cumminstown, near Kilbeggan.

The man's age and identity have yet to be established, gardaí said.

In Dublin, a multiple car pile-up on the southbound lanes of the M1 north of Skerries caused major traffic disruption.

There are no reports of serious injuries and the road has now been cleared.
