European parliamentarians today approved EU funding of nearly €60 million to help the Northern Ireland peace process.

The funding is the latest extension of the International Fund for Ireland established in 1986.

British Labour MEP Ms Neena Gill, who helped push through the deal as part of the EU's budget for next year, said: "This is a real triumph. Many of us fought tooth and nail to secure this. It is imperative our work in Northern Ireland continues."
