The Progressive Democrats have launched a poster campaign claiming major achievements in the health service including improvements in A&E, shorter waiting times and cleaner hospitals.

The poster, launched in Dublin yesterday, is the fourth in a series of five to be displayed in constituencies where the PDs are running candidates in the general election.

"Evidence of major improvements in health is now mounting up every day. The huge energy [Minister for Health] Mary Harney has put into this job is paying increasing dividends," said Tánaiste Michael McDowell at the launch.

"Apart from the tangible advances in services and facilities, she is transforming the way the medical professions are regulated. With other advances, such as negotiations on a new consultants' contract, Mary Harney is ushering in a new era of progress in the delivery of healthcare to all our citizens," he added.
