A passer-by was shot in a family feud in Limerick. A 20-year-old man was wounded in the head, though not seriously. The victim of the shooting, which took place at 7.40 p.m. on Wednesday, was not the intended victim.

Another man in his 40s, who was walking with his children, escaped injury. Two youths wearing balaclavas ran towards the man with a sawn-off shotgun near Watergate Flats.

Three shots were discharged, hitting the 20-year-old man. He was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital with pellet wounds to the head and was released after treatment. The attackers fled the scene in a waiting yellow car and made off in the direction of St John's Square.

A Garda spokesman said the incident was related to an ongoing family feud and they were seeking witnesses.
