The ESB had to cut the electricity to 87 homes in Co Louth after a paraglider became entangled in power lines last month, an air accident investigation has found.
The incident occurred after the pilot decided to practise a forced landing exercise in Salterstown on July 26th.
He overshot the landing point and struck power lines near the field boundary.
The pilot suffered no injuries in the incident but there was minor damage to the paraglider including a burn hole and scuffing to the canopy.
The AAIU found the choice of landing field was not optimum, in that it involved a cross wind landing that did not use the maximum dimension of the field and featured a dangerous obstacle at the far end (the power lines).
It said a failure to maintain a lookout for a dangerous obstacle and over-focusing on the landing area were contributory causes of the incident.
