Dublin - The Palestinian representative in the UK and Ireland has given the Taoiseach a message from the Palestinian President, Mr Yasser Arafat, calling for his help in saving the Middle East peace process, Mark Brennock reports.
Mr Yousef Allan, who met Mr Ahern yesterday, told him that Mr Arafat wanted him to use his influence with the British Prime Minister and President Clinton before Monday's London conference on the Middle East. "Failure of that conference would be a disaster and could provoke violence," he said.
He said the 50 years of the Israeli State was mirrored by 50 years of tragedy for his people. "We are paying the price of the Nazis crimes. . . Israel can only enjoy peace when it recognises the Palestinian people and their right to have their own state."
