A Palestinian man was killed and two others injured, one seriously, in a blast near the city of Nablus in the northern West Bank today.
The explosion occurred in a house in the Al-Ayn refugee camp. The dead man was was said by residents of the camp to have been a former member of the nationalist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine who had joined the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades.
Earlier, the Israeli army said it had seized a Palestinian ambulance carrying a suicide bomber's explosives at a checkpoint on the edge of Ramallah in the West Bank.
The area commander said a coat was found inside loaded with 16 packages of explosives which were wired together, weighing around seven kilos. Military sources in Jerusalem said the driver was a wanted militant.
Israeli government officials said the ambulance belonged to the Red Crescent, the Muslim equivalent of the Red Cross.
