Islamabad - Pakistan's Supreme Court yesterday endorsed the coup that ousted the prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, in October, but told the military government to carry out its reform plans and hold elections within three years.

A 12-judge bench upheld Gen Pervez Musharraf's argument that he had had to seize power because the country was slipping towards chaos, and empowered him to amend the constitution for "the good of the people".
