A convicted paedophile who abused pupils while a school vice-principal in Bangor Grammar School, Co Down, is to be given home leave. Lindsay Brown is serving seven years for abusing young boys. He was sentenced in January 1998, when he was convicted of indecent assault and gross indecency against male pupils in his charge between 1968 and 1991. He has served two years and four months and still has at least a year to serve, including remission. The Northern Ireland Office said Brown would not be put on to the convicted sex offenders' register until his full release. The conditions of his pre-release are that he should have no contact with his former victims and no unsupervised contact with children under 17.

The NIO said it would not comment on specific cases.
