Manila - Philippine Catholic bishops yesterday supported calls for a law that would commute a death sentence to life imprisonment if the convict agreed to donate an organ for transplant.

An association of kidney patients earlier this week urged the government to enact such a law. "I don't see any moral objection to this, provided it is a voluntary donation," said Manila Auxiliary Bishop Teodoro Bacani.
