Residents of Ballinasloe, Co Galway, have pledged to continue their campaign against the disposal of city and county waste in the town, following this week's High Court injunction against their protest.

The four-day picket of the Ballinasloe dump at Poolboy was lifted yesterday following the serving of the injunction on 21 people. They and their sup- porters had opposed the decision to use Poolboy as the main dump for Galway city and county, after a High Court decision had forced the closure of the dump at Carrowbrowne.

Mr Mike O'Reilly said it was scandalous that Poolboy was being used, without any of the remedial work promised by the local authority. Poolboy has already been earmarked as the interim city and county dump.

The group intends to oppose renewal of the interim injunction secured by Ballinasloe Urban District Council against the protesters in the High Court next Monday.
