Operation Freeflow — Dublin's traffic management plan for Christmas and the New Year — will begin on Monday, November 27th.

The Dublin Transport Office said motorists will be informed of the plan in advance through an awareness campaign on the capital's radio stations as well as magazine inserts in newspapers.

The issue was raised in the Dail tonight by Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny.

Last week Mr Kenny called for the early introduction of Operation Freeflow as well as the lifting of the M50 toll barriers at peak times to provide immediate relief for commuters.

The Fine Gael leader also called for gardai to be deployed on point duty at every junction.

Minister for Finance Brian Cowen said last week that the question of prolonging Operation Freeflow beyond Christmas was an issue for the relevant ministers.
