Open champion Ben Curtis is to play on the European Tour next year.
Curtis, who was thrust into the limelight as a virtual unknown when he won at Royal St George's in the summer, will spend 2004 commuting across the Atlantic as he plans to continue competing in the US PGA Tour.
The 26-year-old, named Rookie of the Year on the US Tour, will play at least 11 events on the European schedule in order to qualify him for full membership.
"It seems conditions are not the same as here (playing on the manicured courses on the US Tour) and the weather is not always great but I have got to deal with that and I don't think there really will be problems," he said.
"I hope I will pick up a lot of different shots on the courses in Europe because you have more opportunity to play in different conditions and improve your game.
"I think my short game will improve, especially the putting, and I would like to be known as a world class player."
Curtis will get his campaign underway at the Johnnie Walker Classic in Bangkok at the end of January.
