On the ball

After an absence for many years, the Media Ball is being revived in Dublin

After an absence for many years, the Media Ball is being revived in Dublin. On July 4th some 500 people are likely to dance the night away in the RDS in aid of Goal famine relief in Sudan. All the major media concerns, led by RTE and the newspapers, as well as the political parties, have taken tables already, and, because of the date that is in it, there will be an American theme to the food. A fundraising auction, in which the big item will be a copy of the Belfast Agreement signed by all the main participants, will be conducted by RTE's Joe Duffy.

A cross-media committee has organised the event and the main sponsor for the night, which hopes to raise about £20,000, is the agrifood group IAWS whose chief executive, Philip Lynch, recently won The Irish Times Businessman of the Year Award.
