Gillian O'Sullivan won the 10 kilometre walk at the National Track and Field Championships in Santry, north Dublin this afternoon.

O'Sullivan won in a time of 20 minutes 13 seconds in a race she kept as world record pace for the first half but couldn't maintain it throughout.

Olive Loughnane raced into second behind her international teammate while her younger sister Anne Loughnane secured third.

Paul Brizzell also had a fruitful afternoon by securing his place in the World Championships with victory in the 200 metres. Brizzell won in a time of 21.02 seconds with Paul Hession second and Gary Ryan third.

Garth Turbull, James Nolan and Keith Kelly each won the men's 1500 metres heats and will all race-off tomorrow for a place at the World Championships.
