The husband of Rachel O'Reilly, found beaten to death in her home in north Co Dublin two years ago, has been sent forward for trial for her murder.

Joe O'Reilly (35) appeared before Swords District Court yesterday, where the book of evidence in the murder case was formally served on him.

The trial will take place in the Central Criminal Court next year on a date yet to be fixed.

Ms O'Reilly (30) was killed at her home in The Naul, Co Dublin, on October 4th, 2004. The mother of two was found dead in her bedroom after the alarm was raised when she failed to collect her children from school and creche.

Catherine Irwin, the solicitor for the DPP, told Judge Cormac Dunne that the book of evidence ran to two "comprehensive" volumes, both of which were formally presented in court yesterday.

Mr O'Reilly, who was in court, was represented by solicitor Peter Mullan. He made an application for free legal aid and spoke briefly to confirm he understood the proceedings.

Judge Dunne told Mr O'Reilly that if it was his intention to rely on alibi evidence during his trial, he was required to supply to the prosecution in writing within 14 days the names and addresses of the relevant witnesses.

He told Mr O'Reilly he was sending him forward for trial on the same bail conditions set down by the High Court.

Mr O'Reilly had previously been granted bail after pledging to lodge his own bond of €15,000. His mother, Anne O'Reilly, has provided an independent surety of €15,000.
