GAA:Kerry defender Aidan O'Mahony has called time on his intercounty career, for the time being at least, the Kerry county board confirmed this evening.

The 27-year-old, who collected four All-Ireland titles and was named an All-Star twice, made the decision due to “personal reasons”.

"Aidan O'Mahony has taken time out from the Kerry senior football panel for personal reasons," Jerome Conway, chairman of the Kerry board, announced on the county’s official website.

The Rathmore clubman lost his place to Mike McCarthy during Kerry’s championship run last season but featured in the league campaign this year.

Rumours began to circulate regarding his future in the green and gold of Kerry when he missed a warm weather training camp in Portugal over Easter
