The Minister of State with responsibility for Youth Affairs, Mr Willie O'Dea, has called for "the full rigours of the law to be directed against [night-club] owners and managers who turn a blind eye to drug-trafficking on their premises".

Drug abuse was rife in night-clubs. "Proprietors will say that there is little they can do to prevent it entirely. But, at the same time, owners rake in huge profits from places where hash, speed, ecstasy, acid and even hard drugs are freely available."
