Cable operator ntl Ireland has reported a 20 per cent fall in third-quarter profits on unchanged revenues of £17.9 million.
The company said residential customers increased by 2,500 to reach about 343,600 and digital television customers rose by 6,600 to 88,800. Monthly customer "churn" - or customer cancellations - remained in line at 0.8 per cent in the third quarter.
Ntl also announced it has invested in a network to deliver broadband services to consumers. Homes marketable for broadband increased by 38,500 to reach about 66,500.
Broadband customer numbers grew to some 5,400 at the end of the quarter reaching a penetration level of 8.1 per cent.
In October, ntl Ireland ceased its domestic direct telephone service, which had a customer base of 2,200, after identifying a potential safety risk. This decision did not affect any other service provided by ntl Ireland.
