Singer Shane Filan’s house in Sligo is on the market for €990,000 – significantly less than the €3 million friends said it cost him to build it.
It’s also way under the €10 million he was offered for it by a businessman at the height of the boom.
The house, which is set in five acres at Carraroe, outside Sligo town, was shared by the former Westlife member, his wife Gillian and their three children.
It is behind electronically controlled gates on extensive landscaped grounds with a lake, patio and terraces as well as an area for golf enthusiasts.
Auctioneer Ken Draper, of Sherry FitzGerald, Draper, said there was some interest showing already in the property, which was built in 2004.
He said: “It’s just literally gone on the market and nobody has viewed it yet. We are marketing the property locally, nationally and internationally as a luxury home.”
The Filan family moved all of their possessions out of the house early in January as it was prepared for sale.
They now live in the UK where he has been declared bankrupt.
More than €18 million is owed to creditors from the building company owned by Shane and his brother Finbarr, €5 million of that to Ulster Bank and Bank of Ireland.
