The Department of Justice has a reputation for keeping a low profile - too low, some might say. Until recently, its office block on St Stephen's Green didn't even have a name plate. Now the plate will have to be taken down, to change the Department of Justice to its new name, the Department for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, and the joke is that the new plate will stretch several doors up, as far as the Department of Foreign Affairs in Iveagh House.
The people in the Department of Justice, meanwhile, are very happy to include the law-reform people, who they view as refugees returning home: as one said, this is one application for asylum which will be granted.
