There were no major injuries this morning as equal numbers of daredevils and drunks sprinted with the bulls through Pamplona in the first run of the annual San Fermin festival.
No one was gored by the six fighting bulls, but some people were slightly hurt when they fell on the damp cobbled streets or were stepped on, often by other runners.
The 900 yard course through Pamplona's old quarter to the bull ring took just over two and a half minutes, which is about average.
At two sharp turns, several bulls slipped and went down with a heavy thud.
And a minor pile-up of fallen runners formed at the tunnel leading into the bull ring. Bulls weighing 1,000lbs or more jumped or stepped over them.
Since record keeping began in 1924, 13 people have been killed at the festival. The last fatality was a 22-year-old American, who was gored to death in 1995.
