Nineteen African illegal migrants drowned today when their rickety boat capsized off Morocco's southern Atlantic coast on its way to Spanish Canary islands.

Their bodies washed up off the Atlantic-coast city of Tarfaya, located at 1,150 km (710 miles) south of the capital Rabat.

Two migrants survived the capsizing.

State news agency MAP gave no details on the nationalities of the victims, saying only they were from sub-Saharan African countries.

Thousands of people from Morocco, sub-Saharan Africa and even Asia attempt each year to cross into Europe from Moroccan shores in search of better life. Hundreds die trying.
