An 18-year-old Co Wexford man has been jailed for nine years for raping a young mother outside her home last year. The Central Criminal Court heard he had threatened to kill her during the attack under her bedroom window. Her husband did not wake up despite her cries. A neighbour thought it was a domestic matter.
Her husband later suffered guilt about it and their relationship had had difficulties. The defendant pleaded guilty. In his statement he told gardai he was drunk and that "I feel sick for what I've done. I want to apologise".
The woman in her late 20s said: "I was always an outgoing person. Now I am a wreck and I am an alcoholic. I don't feel safe in my own home."
