The home of Derry SDLP councillor Mr Jim Clifford was slightly damaged when attacked by a group of stone throwers just before midnight yesterday. Mr Clifford, his wife and daughter escaped injury when a stone smashed through a front window of their home at Iniscarn Road in the Creggan. It was the second attack on Mr Clifford's home this year.

The SDLP councillor, who is recovering from a triple bypass operation, said his home had been attacked dozens of times in the past, normally in the run up to an election. "Obviously certain people just don't like my politics, but I would rather that they would talk to me about it rather than resort to this sort of cowardly attack," he said.
