New Zealand to go to the polls next month

New Zealand will hold a general election on July 27th, Prime Minister Ms Helen Clark announced today.

New Zealand will hold a general election on July 27th, Prime Minister Ms Helen Clark announced today.

Electoral law required a general election for a new three-year term to be held by November at the latest.

Ms Clark's ruling Labour Party has been enjoying record high levels of support according to recent polls and it had been speculated that the election would be called early.
