New York - The city will tomorrow take its first step toward choosing a new mayor, despite widespread calls to keep the outgoing mayor, Mr Rudy Giuliani, whose leadership in the World Trade Centre disaster has made him a legend at home.
Voting to select the major party candidates for the election on November 7th began on September 11th but had to be halted after the terrorist attacks.
Mr Giuliani is barred by state law from seeking a third four-year term. A move to allow him to stay in office was quashed by the State Governor, Mr George Pataki, on Friday.
