A bridge in the US state of New Hampshire is to be named after Irish folk singer Tommy Makem at a civic ceremony next Friday.

The new bridge, at Dover, is being co-named after Makem’s wife, Mary, as the Tommy and Mary Makem Memorial Bridge.

Makem, a native of Keady in South Armagh and well known as a member of the Clancy Brothers, left Ireland to reside in New Hampshire in 1955.

He died three years ago, and some Keady residents are planning to erect a local memorial to him.
