A new orchid grown by the Singapore National Parks Service has been named after the Taoiseach, Mr Ahern.

The honour was bestowed upon Mr Ahern by the parks service chief executive, Mr Tan We Kiat, during a two-day visit to the Asian country this week.

Arrangements are to be made between the Singaporeans and the Department of Agriculture in Dublin to ensure that one of the new orchid plants can be brought to the Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin.

"Glasnevin will get a copy," said the Singapore National Parks Board.
