A new date is to be fixed for the trial of a Dublin man charged with murdering his neighbour in Pearse Street on December 21st, 1996, after his case was adjourned yesterday at the Central Criminal Court.

Mr Derek Gibbons (34), from Markievicz House, Townsend Street, was charged with murdering Gerard Doyle, a neighbour. His trial was listed to start last Monday.

Mr Hugh Harnett SC, defending, applied for the matter to be adjourned with the consent of Ms Maureen Clarke SC, for the DPP. Mr Justice Carney granted the adjournment and put the case in for mention today in the list of fixed dates to set a new trial date.

The court heard this would not be for at least another six months.
