The number of new cars licenced in June grew by nearly 10 per cent compared to the same month in 2004, according o the Central Statistics Office.

Data released by the CSO today showed that 14,950 news cars were licenced last month, compared with 13,612 at the same period last year.

In the six months to June this year there were 121,460 new private cars licenced, a rise of 13.6 per cent compared with the same period last year.

The number of new goods vehicles licensed was 3,693 last June, compared with 2,959 for the corresponding month in 2004, a rise of 24.8 per cent.
