Los Angeles - The governor of California yesterday signed a punitive bill that would ban paparazzi photographers from invading the privacy of celebrities. The new statute becomes law on January 1st next year.

It allows for punitive damages against media for invasion of privacy in cases where a person is filmed or recorded "engaging in a personal or family activity in circumstances where they had a reasonable expectation of privacy".
