Construction of a £29 million interchange to be built on the N4 in Celbridge, Co Kildare, is about to begin, it was announced yesterday. It is expected to be completed within 18 months, easing the flow of traffic through Celbridge and reducing congestion in Leixlip.
The contract has been awarded to Sisk and will be signed today with Kildare County Council in association with the National Roads Authority and the Department of the Environment and Local Government. The project is part-funded by the EU.
Hewlett-Packard and Intel, which employ over 6,500 people between them in the region, are contributing more than £4 million towards the cost.
The managing director of Hewlett-Packard, Mr Lionel Alexander, said Leixlip was one of the most strategic sites for the company across the world.
The vice-president and general manager of Intel, Mr John McGowan, said he looked forward to the interchange reducing traffic in and around Leixlip and making it easier for the company's employees to travel to work.
