The Medical Council has found seven doctors guilty of professional misconduct. Six have had their names erased from the General Register of Medical Practitioners and two have been censured.
The names are published in newspaper advertisements, and the bans were imposed following inquiries by the Fitness to Practise Committee and subsequently confirmed by the High Court.
Found guilty of professional misconduct was Dr Masud Anwar, Knockowen Rd, Tullamore, Co Offaly, and his name has been erased from the medical register.
Guilty of professional misconduct and unfit to engage in the practice of medicine for health reasons who had their names erased from the general register were: Dr Aidan Terence Dunn, Crinnage, Craughwell, Co Galway; Dr Thomas Gerard Kenny, Parkmore, Ballinasloe, Co Galway: Dr James Joseph Lyons, Killeen House, Borrisokane, Co Tipperary; and Mr Seamus Henry O'Friel, Stillorgan Wood, Blackrock, Co Dublin.
Dr Thomas Henry Ryle, The Spa, Tralee, Co Kerry, was found guilty of professional misconduct, conditions were attached to the retention of his name in October 1999, and he was censured in relation to professional conduct.
Dr Omar Radwan al Johmani, Damascus, Syria, was found guilty of professional misconduct and was censured on December 9th, 1999.
As well as the above, Dr Ann Rosemary O'Callaghan, Grange Road, Baldoyle, was found unfit to engage in the practice of medicine for health reasons and her name was erased.
