Irish music stars Brian Kennedy and Frankie Gavin joined Nicola Joyce of Gráda and Michelle Lally of Hibernian Rhapsody for music and dancing in St Stephen's Green today to promote the 2008 World Fleadh.
The Fleadh which is recognised as Ireland's largest Irish and Celtic music festival will showcase a host of musicians from July 31st to August 4th, including Moya Brennan, The Wolf Tones, Mundy, Shane McGowan, The Hothouse Flowers, Sharon Shannon and Lunasa.
Returning to Portlaoise for the second year, the festival will also see a country music special with Mike Denver, Rory Daniels and Ray Lynam all performing.
Brian Kennedy said "I'm really happy to be involved in the Fleadh, to get to sing with the Philharmonic Orchestra and especially to fuse my type of music with more traditional music".
Frankie Gavin said this year's show will be a show with a difference because of special guests like Moya Brennan, Brian Kennedy and the Dublin Philharmonic Orchestra. He added "it's the first event of this nature that we're involved in, and hopefully not the last".
In addition to performances by Irish Music stars, the festival will also host world title competitions in Irish traditional music, song and dance master classes and demonstrations in various performance styles.
The World Fleadh is in its third year, having first been staged in Co Kerry in 2006.
