Little Rock - A graduate student fired several shots yesterday on the main campus of the University of Arkansas, killing an English professor, in the professor's office, with a point .38 calibre pistol before apparently taking his own life, a university spokesman said.

Mr Roger Williams referred to the incident as "apparently a murder-suicide" which took place shortly after midday on the first day of class at the university's main campus in Fayetteville, 200 miles northwest of Little Rock.
