Gardaí have begun a murder investigation following the fatal stabbing of a 38-year-old Croatian man whose body was found in a Dublin apartment yesterday afternoon.

The dead man was named this afternoon as Mr Eldin Palangic. He had been in Ireland for 12 or 13 years and worked as a chef in the Blackrock area.

His body was discovered by a relative in an upstairs apartment at Pembroke Road in Ballsbridge yesterday afternoon.

The State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, was called to the scene along with a team from the Garda Technical Bureau. The body was removed from the apartment last night.

A post-mortem at the City Morgue this morning showed he died of stab wounds.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who knew or worked with the victim to contact them at Donnybrook Station on 01-6669200.  Detectives are particularly keen to speak to anyone who spoke with or met him in the last few weeks.
