Gardaí have named the 60-year-old man who was fatally shot in in Fermony, Co Cork this morning as John Mahon.
The father of five was a former internation boxing referee.
He died after being shot at St Bernards Place, Fermoy shortly after 12.30am.
At least one and possibly more shots were fired at the victim who then ran several hundred metres to his sister's house.

It is believed the attacker caught up with him at that point and he was fatally wounded in the front garden of the house.
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
