The State Pathologist, Dr John Harbison has carried out a preliminary post mortem examination on the body of a young man which was found next to the grounds of a hospital in Clonmel.

Gardaí have begun a murder investigation but are not following any definite lines of inquiry.

The man's body was found in a field behind St Luke's Hospital this morning.

The man, who has not yet been identified, was discovered with multiple injuries to the head and body near an area known as Kelly's Field at 3 a.m. by a passing group.

Gardai conducted a forensic examination at the scene.
